Tom Palmer
Tom Palmer’s work spans a wide range of disciplines bridging the gap between the fine and decorative arts. From his studio in the heart of the South Downs National Park, in the South of England, he reinterprets traditional hand techniques, often using noble mediums, combining these with contemporary industrial materials and technology.
Tom Palmer takes his inspiration from the Medieval and Renaissance European world, as well as the art of Japan, examining these historic sources through a contemporary lens, in the pursuit of something new and unexpected. His work is driven by twin fascinations of texture and translucency, exploring these two almost opposing qualities through hand carving and advanced casting, experimenting to push the possibilities of materials and techniques to their furthest.
Ranging from individual pieces for private clients to bespoke installations for international interior designers and architects, Tom Palmer has worked all over the globe, including projects for numerous AD100 firms such as Nicole Hollis inc and leading architects including Richard Parr in the UK. He will be exhibiting as part of the Future Europe section curated by Jean Blanchaert for Homo Faber 2022, San Giorgio Maggiore, Venice.

Depuis son atelier au cœur du parc national des South Downs, dans le sud de l'Angleterre, il réinterprète les techniques manuels traditionnelles, utilisant des médiums nobles, en les associant à des matériaux et une technologie industriels modernes et contemporains.
Tom Palmer s'inspire de l’époque médiévale et de la Renaissance, ainsi que du Japon, décryptant ces sources historiques à travers un regard contemporain, à la recherche de quelque chose de nouveau et d'inattendu. Son travail est animé par la double fascination de la texture et de la translucidité, explorant ces deux qualités presque opposées à travers la sculpture à la main et le moulage avancé. Il expérimente et pousse au maximum les possibilités de chaque matériau et technique.
De pièces individuelles pour des clients privés à des installations sur mesure pour des designers d'intérieur et des architectes internationaux, Tom Palmer a travaillé dans le monde entier, notamment avec les grands acteurs du AD 100 dont Nicole Hollis inc et d’éminents architectes comme Richard Parr au Royaume-Uni. Il participera à Homo Faber 2022, San Giorgio Maggiore à Venise, dans le cadre de la section Future Europe organisée par Jean Blanchaert.
